Blue Angels

Blue Angels

Each piece is 3Ft 8 inches created using mixed media and found objects

(click on to the image for enlargement)

Here is an older piece which I haven't previously been able to upload because the scale and of the work. However I have finally managed to take individual sections of the piece and stitch them back together using photoshop. Please click on the image to take a more detailed view of the work. Individual close up will be uploaded soon.

There phallic Pillars stand in the shape of an equilateral triangle. The three phallic spears have various different found objects wrapped and bound into their surface. The audience are encourage to walk around the three totems to explore the work and discover the collection of objects which have been found and taken from Canal Street in Manchester UK.

The piece aims to highlight some of the abandoned remains of the street as a historic shrine. I hope to encourage a dialogue, looking at the community Canal Street serves and the interaction of those who walk through the streets themselves. There is a tension in the values and pride people have for this microcosm and interested in how others perceive the lifestyle.

  1. Interesting that you referred to them as totems because that's what they made me think of as well. That and kind of what the street poles in downtown NYC used to look like before the place was "cleaned up."

  3. Sabina: Love to know what NYC looked like before! Have you a link to a pic? I think it's interesting what people throw away and equally find it interesting to think about what people value!
